Bengaluru to receive four‑track railway corridors within 100 km

Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna announced a plan to develop four‑track railway corridors within a 100‑km radius of Bengaluru. The scheme will add parallel lines on heavily used routes, aiming to decongest the city’s busy rail network and boost passenger and freight capacity.

Specific projects include a quadruple line to Tumakuru—survey completed, tenders to start soon—and studies for similar lines to Mysuru, Kolar and a possible Bengaluru‑Mangaluru corridor. The central government will handle required land acquisition. Additional announcements covered the prospective introduction of a Vande Bharat Sleeper service to Vijayapura and a high‑speed rail link between Bengaluru and Mumbai via Pune.

The initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernise Karnataka’s rail infrastructure and improve multimodal connectivity with surrounding industrial and logistics hubs.
