Bengaluru woman loses ₹98,000 in Blinkit refund scam
A 56-year-old woman in Bengaluru’s Vasanth Nagar area lost ₹98,000 to cyber fraudsters while attempting to secure a refund for a spoiled curd packet purchased via the Blinkit delivery app.
After discovering the product was leaking, the victim searched Google for Blinkit customer support and contacted a number found in the search results. A fraudster sent her a WhatsApp link, instructing her to upload a photograph of the spoiled item as proof. Following the upload, another individual contacted her, claiming the refund was being processed and advising her to check her Google Pay account. During this interaction, ₹98,000 was debited from her Bank of Baroda account within a one-minute window.
Bengaluru’s Central Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) police station has registered a case involving cheating and impersonation. Investigators are currently examining the phone numbers and the malicious link used in the fraud. Authorities have advised consumers to use only official app channels for complaints and to avoid unverified customer care numbers found through online searches.
