Bengaluru woman loses Rs 2.5 crore to fake godman and accomplices
Kumuda, a 40‑year‑old woman originally from Andhra Pradesh and residing in Bengaluru, filed a police complaint after being defrauded of about Rs 2.5 crore. She sold her house in Chamarajpet for Rs 8.5 crore and handed the money to self‑styled godman Afsar Pasha and his associates Shankar and Bharat, who promised a loan of Rs 10 crore that would be repaid after the Reserve Bank of India released Rs 500 crore.
The fraudsters performed pujas and rituals, claiming the money would remove “evil forces” affecting Kumuda’s son, who had been injured in a bike accident. When the promised repayment did not materialise, they threatened her with violence. Bengaluru’s Commercial Crime Branch registered an FIR against the three suspects and launched an investigation to trace them.
