Bengaluru‑Tumakuru Four‑Track Railway Project to Begin Land Acquisition

The Karnataka government is moving ahead with a quadruple railway line between Bengaluru and Tumakuru. State Railway Minister V. Somanna said the detailed project report has been approved by the technical committee and will be submitted to the cabinet and NITI Aayog. The project, estimated at over 6,000 crore rupees, will expand the existing double‑track to four lines, allowing express and passenger trains to run on separate tracks and halving travel time between the cities.

Land acquisition for the corridor is expected to start within the next five‑to‑six months. The upgrade aims to ease congestion on one of the state’s busiest routes, boost regional economic activity and support a planned metro extension from Bengaluru to Tumakuru.

The new line is projected to improve operational capacity, reduce delays caused by signal and crossing waits, and benefit daily commuters, traders, students and workers traveling the 68‑kilometre stretch.
