Bengkalis Prison Seizes 10 kg Meth in Major Drug Smuggling Bust

Lapas Kelas IIA Bengkalis, working with the Directorate of Narcotics Crime of the Indonesian National Police, dismantled an international drug smuggling network that brought narcotics from Malaysia via sea. The operation led to the arrest of courier Muhammad Syahril in the village of Kelemantan and the seizure of 10.861 kg of methamphetamine, 858 kg of ketamine, 472 kg of MDMA and 496 cartridges of etomidate. The investigation was triggered by information from an inmate identified as SAF (alias OMO) and coordinated with the Bengkalis Customs office. Prison director Priyo Tri Laksono highlighted the success as evidence of strong collaboration between the correctional system and police to prevent drug trafficking inside and outside prison facilities. Authorities said the case will continue to be pursued to uncover a broader syndicate.
