Beni security forces launch joint operations to combat urban crime

Security forces in Beni, North Kivu, have intensified efforts to combat urban crime through joint operations and internal reforms. On September 14, 2026, the Congolese National Police (PNC) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) conducted a systematic security sweep in the Nyakalibwa cell of the Mambango neighborhood.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals, though nine were released following an on-site screening process. Eleven suspects remain in custody for investigation. Authorities also seized military equipment, three motorcycles, and a chainsaw during the sweep.

In a separate development, Provincial Police Commissioner Dieudonné Makambo Gimba held a meeting with unit commanders to emphasize discipline, rigor, and vigilance. The directive focuses on strengthening the fight against urban criminality in Beni and improving police professionalism. Additionally, the PNC warned the public that no recruitment is currently underway to prevent fraudulent schemes involving fake recruiters.
