Beni Suef University Hospitals surgeons save pregnant woman and fetus
A medical team at Beni Suef University Hospitals successfully performed an urgent and advanced heart surgery to save the life of a pregnant woman in her third month and her fetus. The patient was suffering from an acute clot on a metallic mitral valve that had been implanted seven years prior.
The surgery became necessary after the patient failed to respond to blood clot-dissolving treatments, leading to a severe deterioration in vital signs and decreased heart muscle efficiency. The procedure required high-level coordination between cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, and intensive care specialists to manage the risks associated with using a heart-lung machine and specific medications while protecting the unborn child.
The surgical team was led by Dr. Ahmed Hassan El-Magry, with oversight from university officials including Dr. Hani Hamed and Dr. Emad El-Banna. Following the successful intervention, the patient was stabilized and discharged to continue her pregnancy under medical supervision.
