Benidorm launches literary tour commemorating Sylvia Plath
The first edition of a thematic walking tour dedicated to the locations visited by American writer Sylvia Plath in Benidorm has reached full capacity. Organized by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage, the event commemorates the 70th anniversary of Plath’s stay in the city.
During her honeymoon with writer Ted Hughes approximately seven decades ago, Plath resided in Benidorm for about six weeks. Her experiences in the area were captured in her letters, diaries, poems, paintings, and photographs. The inaugural tour, guided by professor Pasqual Almiñana, was conducted in Valencian and included historical graphic materials and excerpts from the author’s writings.
The itinerary covered various landmarks, including Elche Park, Levante Beach, Poniente Beach, and the San Jaime church, as well as sites mentioned in her work such as the Mal Pas beach and the Planèsia hotel. Two additional routes are scheduled for October 17 and 24, which will be conducted in Spanish and English, respectively.
