Benidorm funeral urn returned to family after being found in supermarket locker

A funeral urn containing a deceased person's ashes was left in a supermarket locker in Benidorm while the family carried out home renovations. The family considered the locker a safe temporary place. The urn was discovered on Monday by the store’s staff during a routine check of the lockers and the incident was reported to the Benidorm Local Police.

Police officer Quique Tortosa said investigators posted an image of the urn on social media and consulted police databases to identify the relatives. After locating the family, the urn was handed back to them on Tuesday, eliminating the need to move it to the municipal cemetery. The case attracted widespread attention on social networks, but the matter was resolved quickly through police cooperation with the supermarket and the public.
