Benin advances healthcare through infrastructure reconstruction and medical equipment donations
Benin is implementing several initiatives to modernize its healthcare infrastructure and improve medical services across the country. The government's Council of Ministers has approved the complete reconstruction of 14 health centers located in eleven departments, including locations such as Abomey-Calavi, Comè, and Copargo. This program aims to strengthen local care and improve patient reception conditions. In some areas, such as Bantè, work is already nearing completion, while in Lougba, a new company has been contracted to finish construction following the failure of a previous contractor.
In northern Benin, specifically in the Alibori and Atacora departments, the Japanese Embassy, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Ministry of Health have provided medical equipment valued at approximately 110 million FCFA (192,412 USD). The donation includes emergency kits, laboratory equipment, maternal and nutritional health supplies, hospital beds, solar panels, and blood transfusion equipment. This support aligns with Benin's broader health strategies, including the ARCH program for vulnerable populations and a national health development plan for 2026-2030.
