Benin and Gabon police arrest suspects in theft and city hall burglary

In Benin, police recovered a stolen Bajaj motorcycle that had been taken from Comè on 31 July. The bike was found hidden in a suspect’s home in Lokossa on 1 August 2026, leading to the arrest of two men who were placed in custody while investigations continue.

In Gabon, authorities detained Alain Bignoumba, a 46‑year‑old security guard, for his role in the recent burglary of the Franceville City Hall. Bignoumba was captured in Akiéni after fleeing the scene; investigators say he and an accomplice stole roughly 430,000 francs, a laptop and other items before abandoning the plan. He is now held at the central prison in Yéné while the search for his accomplice proceeds.
