Benin government to resume full operations on September 1

Ministers in Benin are returning to their duties following a multi-week leave period. Starting Monday, August 24, 2026, officials will undergo a week of progressive reintegration before the government, led by Romuald Wadagni, resumes full-scale activities on September 1.

While official government activities were scaled back during the break, administrative services and the monitoring of key files continued through the presidency and various ministries. Government spokesperson Wilfried Léandre Houngbédjia noted that while the pace changed, work did not stop.

The upcoming legislative and administrative agenda is dense, with priorities including the preparation of the 2027 state budget and the development of a new Government Action Program (PAG). Additionally, the government will oversee the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, with teacher preparations scheduled for early September.
