Benin honors 66 personalities in 2026 Hisse Ton Drapeau campaign

The Government of Benin has announced the 66 personalities selected for the 2026 edition of the #HisseTonDrapeau campaign. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Tourism and SoLE SA to mark the 66th anniversary of Benin's independence, honors citizens and members of the diaspora whose achievements contribute to the nation's international standing.

The selected group includes a diverse range of professionals, such as entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, and scientists. Notable honorees include Grammy Award-winning singer Angélique Kidjo, actor Djimon Hounsou, sculptor Romuald Hazoumè, and former footballer Stéphane Sessègnon. Other recognized figures include economist Leonard Wantchekon and Michelin-starred chef Georgiana Viou.

The campaign included a period from July 12 to August 3, 2026, where citizens were encouraged to display the national flag on homes, vehicles, or offices. A digital extension, 66visages.bj, provides portraits of the honorees and cultural content.
