Benin official demands removal of CNews from Canal+ broadcasts
Claudy Siar, Benin’s Presidential Mission Lead for Culture, Media, and Visibility, has called for the removal of the French news channel CNews from Canal+ broadcasting packages in Benin. Siar accused the network of an editorial line that repeatedly insults and denigrates African identities.
In a public statement, Siar noted that CNews has faced previous legal convictions in France for discrimination and racial insults. He argued that while such content might be tolerated in France, Benin cannot allow its citizens to be exposed to media deemed dehumanizing.
To formalize this demand, Siar has engaged with the management of Canal+ Benin and scheduled a meeting with the President of the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC) to pursue institutional action.
