Benin President Romuald Wadagni visits Rwanda to strengthen bilateral ties

Benin President Romuald Wadagni conducted a two-day official visit to Rwanda starting September 16, 2026, to meet with President Paul Kagame. This marks Wadagni’s first official trip to Kigali since his inauguration in May.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, specifically in regional security, military cooperation, and administrative modernization. Both leaders aimed to translate shared priorities into concrete actions regarding intelligence sharing and border protection against threats from the Sahel. Economic cooperation remains a key pillar, with discussions covering digitalization, agriculture, and investment attractiveness.

As part of the diplomatic program, President Wadagni visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi to pay respects to the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The visit also included informal interactions with citizens in Kigali, signaling a continued commitment to the strategic partnership established between the two nations.
