Benin reaffirms support for Morocco's claim over Western Sahara
Benin reiterated its firm and constant support for Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over the whole of its territory, including the Western Sahara region. The Beninese government also reaffirmed backing for Morocco's autonomy plan, describing it as the only credible and realistic solution to the dispute.
The position was expressed in a joint communiqué concluding the seventh session of the Moroccan‑Beninese Mixed Cooperation Commission held in Cotonou and co‑presided by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Beninese Minister Corinne Amori Brunet. Benin praised UN Security Council resolution 2797, which endorses the autonomy plan, and announced that Minister Amori Brunet will soon undertake a mission to Dakhla to assess the region’s economic and social development and explore partnership opportunities. Both parties agreed to hold the next session of the commission in Dakhla.
