Benin robbery attempt ends in accidental shooting of accomplice

In the hamlet of Affoutoufadji, Benin, a robbery attempt on the night of September 2-3, 2026, resulted in a chaotic confrontation. Three assailants armed with artisanal rifles attempted to break into a farm. The property owner resisted the attack using a machete, wounding one of the attackers.

During the struggle, a second assailant opened fire to subdue the farmer but accidentally shot his own accomplice. Following the accidental shooting and the farmer's attempt to alert neighbors, the group fled the scene. The suspects stole 140,000 CFA francs and two mobile phones. Authorities have since apprehended four suspected members of the group following a rapid investigation.
