Cave of les Morretes in Benitatxell Offers Guided Tours Until September 5

The Cave of les Morretes, located on the rugged coast of Benitatxell in Spain’s Valencian Community, will be open for guided visits until 5 September. Tours run Tuesday to Saturday mornings and require prior reservation for groups of at least five people via phone, WhatsApp or email. The municipal Tourism Department organized the program to showcase the cave’s maritime history, its use as a shelter by fishermen, farmers and historic smugglers, and recent archaeological work that uncovered a hoard of 67 Spanish coins minted between 1869 and 1879. Restoration and interpretive panel installation were funded through the EU Next Generation program and the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan. Visitors can learn about the cave’s past uses, see restored structures such as an old communal oven, and experience a museum‑like presentation within the natural setting.
