Mexican municipalities launch participatory budgeting initiatives
Local governments in Chihuahua and Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo, are advancing participatory budgeting processes for 2027. In Chihuahua, the municipal government concluded promotional forums involving 320 proponents to prepare for citizen consultations scheduled for November 28 and 29. These projects focus on public services, security, education, sports, and the recovery of public spaces.
In Cancún, the Benito Juárez City Council has initiated co-creation workshops to assist residents in structuring community improvement projects. These workshops, organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Welfare, will run itinerantly through November 13 across various zones. The city has allocated 100 million pesos to be distributed among 10 zones. Following a feasibility evaluation in late 2024, the final projects will undergo a voting phase between December 2026 and January 2027.
