Benito Juárez and Chihuahua municipalities dismantle illegal dump sites

In the municipality of Benito Juárez, Cancun, officials from the decentralized agency SIRESOL and the General Directorate of Public Services closed a clandestine landfill in Superblock 246 and removed an estimated 150‑200 tons of debris, broken pottery and vegetation. The cleanup, supervised by Landy Guadalupe Canché Pantoja, also included a comprehensive cleaning of Parque Campana in Superblock 93, with 25 workers handling sweeping, pruning, waste removal and lighting repairs. The municipality said it will increase patrols, impose sanctions and expand environmental education, and it asks residents to report incidents via a dedicated WhatsApp channel.

In Chihuahua, the municipal Directorate of Public Services cleared a large pile of garbage that had accumulated near a kindergarten in the Independencia neighbourhood after citizens reported it to the Centro de Respuesta Ciudadana (CRC). Director José Luis De Lamadrid reminded the public that illegal dumping can be fined up to 10,000 pesos and poses health risks, especially during the hot and rainy season, and urged continued reporting through the CRC hotline.
