Benito Juárez implements traffic awareness program to improve mobility

The Benito Juárez borough in Mexico City has implemented the ‘Blindar BJ 360 Vialidad’ program, which focuses on building a culture of road safety and traffic awareness rather than relying solely on fines.

Mayor Luis Mendoza stated that the initiative aims to recover public space and improve mobility by addressing vehicles parked in prohibited areas or in double rows. The strategy prioritizes dialogue and proximity with residents. Traffic agents engage in informative sessions and distribute flyers in various neighborhoods, including Del Valle, to encourage drivers to move their vehicles.

The enforcement process follows a three-step approach: initial dialogue and persuasion, followed by a verbal warning if the driver refuses to comply, and finally, a formal traffic fine. To date, the program has conducted 9,500 proximity and awareness actions, resulting in 4,800 verbal warnings and 503 traffic citations.
