Benjamin Fields to remain in custody pending federal trial
Benjamin Fields, known as NBA Ben10, will remain in custody while awaiting trial on federal charges related to a violent confrontation at a Houston restaurant in April. Fields and five others, including rapper OG 3Three, face charges of aiding and abetting robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
The incident occurred at Confessions restaurant, where prosecutors allege men attempted to steal jewelry from Detroit rapper AllStar JR, also known as Jeremy Ford. During the struggle, Ford allegedly fired a weapon, striking Fields and two others. The shooting resulted in a spinal injury that left Fields paralyzed. Ford faces separate federal charges regarding the incident.
During a September 24 arraignment, Fields pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Judge Christina A. Bryan and was remanded to custody. While federal prosecutors argued Fields poses a danger to the community, his attorney, Dustan Neyland, contended that Fields was a victim of an attempted murder. The trial is currently scheduled to begin on November 9.
