Benjamin Fredrick returns to football after nine-month injury

Nigerian defender Benjamin Fredrick has returned to competitive football after a nine-month absence due to a knee injury. The 21-year-old centre-back played 45 minutes for Brentford U21 on Monday in a 5-1 victory against Sunderland U21.

Fredrick had been sidelined since November 2025, having sustained the injury while on loan at the Belgian club FCV Dender EH. His absence resulted in him missing the 2025 AFCON tournament. This appearance marks a significant step in his rehabilitation as he seeks to regain match fitness and work toward a promotion to the Brentford senior squad.

The defender's return is also notable for the Nigeria national team, as he may be available for upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifying matches.
