Benjamin Goddard sentenced to two years for GBH in Newcastle attack

Benjamin Goddard, a 23‑year‑old from Sheffield with 14 prior convictions, was sentenced by Newcastle Crown Court to two years' imprisonment after pleading guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm. The offence occurred on 3 May 2026 when Goddard, under the influence of alcohol and laughing gas, attacked his girlfriend in a Travelodge hotel room in Newcastle. He kicked her in the head, causing multiple skull and facial fractures, a small amount of air in the skull cavity and a suspected cerebrospinal fluid leak. The victim required hospital treatment and described the injuries as life‑changing. Goddard had been released early on licence from a five‑year drug‑supply sentence handed down in February 2024. The court noted his violent conduct and imposed the two‑year custodial term.
