Benjamin Lewis, self‑styled “New Forest vampire”, detained after ritual animal placements at churches

Benjamin Lewis, a 48‑year‑old resident of Totton in Hampshire, England, left dead lambs and deer on the doorways, roofs and ambones of churches across the New Forest area. Claiming to be “Count Dracula” and believing that drinking blood would grant him immortality, he arranged the carcasses in ritual‑like patterns that frightened parishioners and livestock owners.

Police in Hampshire linked the incidents to Lewis after DNA from a sheep carcass matched him. A search of his home uncovered sketches of vampires, occult notes and references to blood‑drinking. He was arrested, charged with religious harassment and theft of livestock, and committed to a psychiatric hospital for treatment pending a court decision.

The community reported a sharp decline in church attendance and heightened fear among local farmers, with some residents considering leaving the area. Authorities continue to monitor churches on dates identified from a satanic calendar to prevent further incidents.
