Justice Minister Limbach to testify in Solingen attack inquiry

North Rhine-Westphalia Justice Minister Benjamin Limbach is set to testify before a state parliamentary inquiry committee regarding the 2024 Solingen terror attack. The committee, led by Thomas Kutschaty, is investigating potential failures and the role of state justice authorities in the aftermath of the incident.

Key areas of inquiry include departmental coordination within the state government and the assistance provided to victims. Former Lower Saxony Justice Minister Barbara Havliza will also be questioned regarding her role as a victim representative and the support offered to those affected.

The investigation follows the August 23, 2024, attack in Solingen, an Islamist-motivated incident claimed by ISIS that resulted in three deaths and eight injuries. The perpetrator, Issa al H., was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court in September 2025. It was noted that the attacker should have been repatriated to Bulgaria under EU Dublin rules a year prior to the attack, but the attempt failed.
