Benjamin Mendy extends contract with Polish club Pogon Szczecin
World Cup 2018 champion Benjamin Mendy, who joined Polish Ekstraklasa side Pogon Szczecin in September 2025, announced a new contract extension in early July 2026. The deal runs until June 2027 with an option for an additional year. Mendy said the primary reason for staying is the strong relationship with the coaching staff and the welcoming atmosphere at the club, adding that he feels "at home" and sees the team making steady progress.
The French defender’s move to Poland follows a turbulent period after legal accusations in 2021 were cleared in 2023. After short spells at Lorient and FC Zurich, he sought to rebuild his career, choosing Szczecin for its supportive environment. The extension was confirmed by the club, which praised his contributions in the 2025/26 season, where he appeared in 11 matches.
