Netanyahu defends 2025 Qatar strike and Gaza funding
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly defended a September 9, 2025, military strike on Doha, Qatar, describing the nation as a “hostile” state. The strike, which occurred during negotiations for a U.S.-backed Gaza ceasefire, resulted in the deaths of five Hamas members and one Qatari security officer.
In a recent interview with i24NEWS, Netanyahu dismissed domestic criticisms regarding the use of Qatari funds in Gaza, asserting that such money was intended strictly for humanitarian purposes and was transferred upon the recommendation of Israeli security agencies. He noted that these funds represent only two percent of the total capital entering the Gaza region.
While Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly apologized to Qatar’s leadership for the strike during a meeting at the White House, the incident drew widespread condemnation. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres characterized the bombing as a “flagrant violation” of Qatari sovereignty. Qatar has maintained that its financial assistance to Palestinians is conducted through transparent mechanisms recognized by both Israel and the United States.
