Benjamin Netanyahu rejects Barack Obama’s comments on Israeli land

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a firm rebuttal to former U.S. President Barack Obama following remarks made during a speaking engagement in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Obama characterized Israel’s acquisition of Palestinian land as a “moral retreat,” suggesting that the displacement of people created a sense of injustice that fuels ongoing conflict. Obama also criticized Israel’s military conduct in Gaza, noting that a policy of making no concessions might work in the short term but results in a loss of moral standing.

In a video response shared on X, Netanyahu rejected the characterization of Israelis as foreign occupiers. He asserted that the Jewish people are indigenous to the Levant and that the land, historically known as Judea, is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. Netanyahu argued that the presence of Israelis is not a colonial enterprise similar to European powers in Africa or Indonesia, but rather the return of an indigenous population to its roots.

Netanyahu further addressed the obstacles to Middle East peace, attributing them to the refusal of certain adversaries to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. He highlighted shared threats between Israel and the United States, citing hostile rhetoric from the Iranian regime as a common challenge for both nations.
