Benjamin Netanyahu rejects Gaza prayer request and threatens area evacuations

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a proposal by Settlement Minister Orit Strock to allow 20 prominent religious Zionist rabbis to enter the Gaza Strip for mass prayers in early September. The request, intended to coincide with the Jewish holidays of Yom Kippur, aimed to commemorate the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza and assert Israeli claims to the territory. Strock has advocated for the resumption of settlement activity in Gaza, stating that Israel will return to areas it previously vacated.

Separately, the Prime Minister’s office has threatened to evacuate specific areas within the Gaza Strip used as launch sites for balloons, kites, and drones directed toward Israel. Following a security assessment with Defense Minister Israel Katz and military leaders, Israel announced it will intensify strikes against those responsible for these launches and target the infrastructure used by Hamas. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel will not return to the security reality that existed prior to October 7 and will not permit any entity in Gaza to threaten Israeli communities.
