Netanyahu vows to prevent Palestinian statehood during his tenure

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that he will prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza or the West Bank for as long as he remains in office. His remarks, made in response to Mansur Abbas, leader of the United Arab List (Raam), emphasized that Israel will not permit a Palestinian state that is under the control or influence of Iran, describing such a scenario as an existential threat to national security.

Mansur Abbas argued that an independent Palestinian state is already a reality recognized by most of the international community, urging both Israel and the United States to grant formal recognition. In response to the political debate, former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot also stated that a Palestinian state does not exist and would not be established under his potential government.

These developments occur amid shifting political dynamics in Israel. Recent opinion polls suggest a decline in support for Netanyahu’s Likud party ahead of the Knesset elections scheduled for October 27. Some surveys indicate the Likud and its coalition partners may fall short of the 61 seats required to form a government.
