Benjamin Netanyahu's Washington Visit Reinforces US‑Israel Defense Ties Amid Gaza Conflict

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his eighth visit to Washington on July 28‑29, 2026, meeting U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at Blair House. The Pentagon chief and his staff used the talks to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.–Israel defense partnership and shared security interests. Netanyahu also held separate meetings with Senators Tom Cotton, John Fetterman, Tim Sheehy and Ted Cruz, as well as leaders of AIPAC and the evangelical community.

The visit was marked by an unusual side‑door entry to the White House, a departure from the fanfare of his previous trips. Two days after the meetings, former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that an agreement had been reached for Hamas’s complete disarmament and an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Despite the claim, Israeli air, ground and drone operations continued in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, sustaining the humanitarian crisis that began after the October 2023 war.
