Benjamin Sesko discusses 2019 Manchester United transfer refusal
Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has reflected on his decision to decline a transfer to the club in 2019 when he was 16 years old. Speaking to The Athletic, the Slovenian forward explained that he chose to join Red Bull Salzburg instead of moving directly from Slovenia to Manchester to ensure a more gradual development process.
Sesko noted that his time at Salzburg and subsequently RB Leipzig provided essential steps for his improvement, stating that he feels much better prepared for the English game now.
Following a period of injury last season, Sesko has returned to full fitness. He explained that his recovery was intentionally delayed to prevent a recurrence of the injury, which he attributed to a combination of a physical blow and physical overload. Having recently scored in a Champions League fixture against Sabah, the 23-year-old has also adjusted his physical conditioning, focusing on cardio to improve mobility after a period of muscle building.
