Benkovac hosts memorial tournament for missing veteran Gento Međugorac

The 2nd Memorial Tournament was held on September 20 at the Barice sports fields near Benkovac to honor Gento Međugorac, a Croatian veteran listed as missing since September 28, 1991.

Međugorac was a member of the Croatian police and the 'Pionirski grad' special purpose unit from Zagreb's Dubrava. During the Homeland War, he participated in various battles, including Pakrac, Daruvara, and the Plitvice Lakes conflict. He disappeared near Zeleni Hrast while part of a convoy heading toward the Dubrovnik battlefield.

The event, organized by UDPJP Pionirski grad 1990 Zagreb, included a ceremony at the Zeleni Hrast memorial where wreaths and candles were laid. The tournament featured competitions in bocce, cards, darts, and tug-of-war. General Ivan Zelić, representing Minister of Croatian Veterans Tome Medveda, opened the proceedings.
