Benny Ray Named Randers' Citizen of the Year 2026

During the official opening of Randers Festuge on 7 August 2026, mayor Rosa Lykke Yde presented the award Årets Randersborger 2026 to Benny Ray. Ray is the founder of SCI‑FI‑CON, a science‑fiction and pop‑culture convention that began in 2014 and has grown into Denmark’s largest event of its kind, attracting thousands of visitors each year to Arena Randers.

The award, given annually since 1977 to individuals who have made a notable contribution to the community, recognized Ray’s dedication and the volunteer effort behind the convention. In her remarks, Yde highlighted how the event puts Randers on the national map and praised the many volunteers who help make the convention possible.
