Benquerencia Elderly Residence faces labor dispute in Toledo

The CCOO union has filed a formal complaint with the Labor Inspectorate regarding what it describes as an ‘unsustainable situation’ at the Benquerencia Elderly Residence in Toledo. The union attributes these issues to the new management taken over by the company Sanivida on January 16, 2026.

Key grievances include chronic staff shortages across all categories, which CCOO claims negatively impacts both resident care and the working conditions of the staff. The union reports that inadequate staffing is being used as a justification to deny employees time off and limit labor rights.

Additionally, the union has raised concerns regarding payroll irregularities, including unpaid amounts and the improper calculation of overtime. Workers allege that requested overtime is being recorded as ordinary hours rather than being compensated according to the State Framework Agreement for Services for the Attention of Dependent Persons.

Other reported issues include inadequate personal protective equipment, such as low-quality gloves that require staff to wear two pairs, as well as deteriorated uniforms and footwear.
