Bentley Torcal EV Uses Real Instruments for Unique Driving Sound

Luxury automaker Bentley is preparing the Torcal, its first fully electric vehicle, with a proprietary sound system called "Bentley Dynamic Symphony." Rather than generate a synthetic engine whine, the system blends recordings of the brand's historic V8 and W12 exhausts with live performances by musicians playing drums, viola, bass guitar and other instruments. Bentley says the rhythmic imperfections of a real drum better emulate the character of a V8 than a purely electronic tone. A video released by the company shows the concept and explains the approach, with a full reveal of the Torcal slated for September.

The initiative aims to preserve the emotional appeal of Bentley's traditional powertrains while meeting the quiet operation of electric drivetrains, potentially influencing how other premium EV makers handle acoustic branding.
