Bento Gonçalves Starts R$425k Restoration of Pipa Pórtico Monument

Interim mayor Anderson Zanella of Bento Gonçalves signed an order on Monday, 27, to begin a R$425,000 restoration of the city's iconic Pipa Pórtico monument, which marks the 50‑year anniversary of the landmark. The work includes cleaning, concrete repair, rebar treatment, reconstruction of deteriorated sections, application of waterproof paint and reinstatement of the electrical system.

The renovation also replaces the surrounding lighting with about 70 new LED fixtures, improving energy efficiency and the monument’s visual appeal. Officials warned that traffic may be temporarily blocked at the site during certain phases of the work.

The ceremony was attended by government secretary Carlos Quadros, tourism secretary Henrique Nuncio, urban mobility secretary Diego Salini, adjunct Natália Madalosso, SEGH director Márcia Ferronatto, former CDL president José Oro and Vanessa Cantelli of the Associação Caminhos de Pedra, underscoring the project's significance for local tourism and cultural heritage.
