Benue CAN leadership denies rumors of secretariat demolition

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benue State has dismissed rumors claiming that Governor Hyacinth Alia plans to demolish the organization’s secretariat in Makurdi. Acting CAN Chairman Rev. Jonathan Terwase Ugbede described the allegations circulating on social media as “malicious, false, baseless, and completely detached from the truth.”

Both the CAN leadership and the Benue State Government have denied the claims. The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Solomon Iorpev, stated that the governor, whom he described as a “proud product of the Church,” maintains a strong partnership with religious institutions and has never contemplated such an action.

Rev. Ugbede urged the public and the Christian community not to panic, characterizing the rumors as a deliberate attempt to sow discord and create tension between the Church and the state government. He further noted that the governor has consistently supported CAN activities and provided financial assistance for the medical bills of various Christians in the state.
