Nasarawa Governor attributes N90bn infrastructure boom to Tinubu's reforms
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has credited President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, specifically the removal of the petrol subsidy, for a significant increase in the state's monthly federal allocation. Previously, the state received between N3.8 billion and N4.5 billion monthly; current allocations now average between N14 billion and N16 billion.
This increased revenue has allowed the Nasarawa administration to execute approximately N90 billion worth of infrastructure projects—including flyovers, road dualization, and stormwater projects—without resorting to bank loans. Sule noted that before these reforms, the state struggled to secure even N5 billion for a single market project.
Additionally, Sule discussed his previous opposition to the original Value Added Tax (VAT) component of the administration's tax reforms. He stated that he criticized the plan because the proposed tax increase would have placed an undue burden on citizens during a period of high inflation. He credited President Tinubu with listening to his concerns and allowing for revisions to the tax proposal.
