Benue State University lecturers strike over unpaid wages, pensions
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Benue State University (BSU) announced an indefinite strike, halting all academic activities. The union cited unpaid pension contributions, delayed gratuities for retirees, promotion and salary award arrears dating back to 2018, and incomplete consequential salary adjustments.
ASUU also condemned governance problems, including the rejection of a Senate‑nominated Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Academic) and inadequate health‑insurance funding. The strike follows unsuccessful negotiations with the Benue State government and university management, and will continue until concrete, binding agreements on staff welfare and university governance are reached.
