Benvenuto Cellini wins $5 million Breeders’ Cup Turf
Benvenuto Cellini, a three-year-old colt by Frankel, secured a three-quarter-length victory in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland on Saturday. Ridden by jockey Ryan Moore, the horse executed a deep closing run, bursting through a gap in the final furlong to win with a time of 2:27.50 on the firm course.
The win marked a record-extending eighth victory in the Turf for trainer Aidan O’Brien, who also saw his stablemate Diamond Necklace finish in third place. For Ryan Moore, the victory was his fifth in the Turf race, tying him with Frankie Dettori for the most wins in the event.
Map of Stars finished in second place. Benvenuto Cellini, who had not won since the Irish Derby in June, entered the race as the betting favorite.
