Benzú neighborhood in Ceuta maintains normalcy near border
The Benzú neighborhood, located approximately 15 minutes from the center of Ceuta, functions as a northern border enclave for the Spanish autonomous city. Home to roughly 1,200 residents, the area maintains a sense of normalcy despite its proximity to the ongoing migration crisis.
The neighborhood is organized around the N-354 highway and features local businesses including bars, food shops, a pharmacy, and a mosque. Due to its strategic location near the border with Morocco, there is a permanent military presence, with Army units stationed at key intersections and near the border separating Benzú from Beliones.
While the atmosphere in Benzú is described as relatively calm compared to the high activity seen in other parts of Ceuta, the effects of the migration crisis are still felt. Local businesses, such as the restaurant La Terraza del Estrecho, serve as social hubs for the community.
