Beong-Soo Kim installed as USC President
Beong-Soo Kim has been formally installed as the 13th president of the University of Southern California (USC). During his investiture ceremony at the University Park campus, Kim announced a major initiative to conduct the first comprehensive overhaul of the university’s undergraduate general education program in decades.
Kim outlined several strategic priorities for his presidency, including reimagining academic programs to address evolving workforce demands and the influence of artificial intelligence, expanding interdisciplinary research, and strengthening ties with Los Angeles-area industries. He emphasized the need for universities to demonstrate value amidst declining public trust in higher education.
Addressing athletic concerns, Kim also commented on the future of head football coach Lincoln Riley. Despite discussions regarding a potential $70 million buyout following recent team performances, Kim stated, “We’re not thinking about that,” noting that the university is currently focused on upcoming games.
