Beppe Grillo attacks M5S Sardinian government over staff appointments

Beppe Grillo, founder of the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S), has launched a sharp political attack against the regional government of Sardinia, led by Alessandra Todde. In a blog post published on October 4, Grillo accused the administration of failing to uphold the movement's founding principles of sobriety and service by exploiting a 2021 regional law.

Grillo referred to the legislation as the ‘poltronificio law,’ noting that while the M5S and PD had previously campaigned to abolish it, the current administration has instead utilized it to assign numerous external consultancies and staff positions. He highlighted specific high-paying contracts for various individuals, suggesting a contradiction between the party's historical opposition to political privilege and its current governing actions in Sardinia.

The M5S Sardinian branch has responded vigorously, dismissing Grillo's claims as false and motivated by personal resentment. Party representatives accused Grillo of lacking local knowledge and attempting to destabilize the leadership of Giuseppe Conte. They argued that the appointments are transparently published and that Grillo's allegations regarding certain individuals' employment status and compensation are inaccurate.
