Berane bus station remains partially non-functional due to construction delays

The bus station in Berane remains partially non-functional despite plans to have it fully operational by August through the formation of a new municipal enterprise. While the gates were opened in April after a four-year closure, the facility currently serves only as a temporary stop for intercity and international lines.

Mayor Đole Lutovac attributed the delay to unfinished construction work, noting that a tender for external landscaping failed due to a lack of interest from contractors. While interior equipping is complete, the station requires external landscaping and the construction of a new canopy, as the existing structure was deemed statistically unsuitable and unsafe.

The station's decline follows the 2005 privatization of the former Jugoprevoza, when the company Simon vojaž took over. Following a decrease in departures, the cessation of local transport, worker strikes, and subsequent bankruptcy of Simon vojaž, the station was closed. In March, the local parliament moved to establish the limited liability company ‘Beranska autobuska stanica’ to manage public transport services.
