Berane Coal Mine workers demand clarity on future operations

Former workers of the Berane Coal Mine in Montenegro are demanding clarity regarding the future of the enterprise, which ceased operations seven years ago. Despite previous government assurances that the mine would resume production through partnerships with European, Turkish, or Chinese companies, no concrete progress has been made.

Workers expressed concern that the Petnjik pit is being allowed to flood, which could destroy all underground equipment. They are calling on the mine owners, the Montenegrin government, and the Municipality of Berane to provide a definitive plan and confirm whether there is any realistic hope for reactivation.
