Berardo Carboni's eco‑fairytale film debuts Aug 6 in Italy

Italian director Berardo Carboni’s new film ‘Greta e le favole vere’ will open in cinemas on 6 August after its out‑of‑competition debut at the 56th Giffoni Film Festival. The story follows a ten‑year‑old girl named Greta, inspired by climate activist Greta Thunberg, who rescues a polar‑bear cub from poachers and embarks on a quest to return it to the North Pole. The cast includes Raoul Bova, Donatella Finocchiaro, Sabrina Impacciatore and young actors Sara Ciocca and Mattia Garaci.

A related documentary, ‘Forest – il futuro ha radici antiche’, will be shown on 28 July at the summer arena Cinema Italia in Sarzana. Directed by Giorgia Lorenzato and Manuel Zarpellon, the film follows two girls and two boys training as forest‑workers in the Monte Meletta woods, illustrating traditional silviculture techniques, safety practices and the area’s recovery after the Vaia storm. It highlights the social, cultural and environmental significance of forest management in the Veneto‑Alps region.
