Berat Luzha links 1982 assassinations to Albanian group unification

Political activist Berat Luzha has provided new insights regarding the 1982 assassinations of Kadri Zeka and brothers Jusuf and Bardhosh Gërvalla. Speaking in the “Dosjet” series on the program “Debat Plus”, Luzha stated that the killings were a direct consequence of the efforts to unify various Albanian political groups operating within the former Yugoslavia.

Luzha suggested that the night of the murders coincided with the successful unification of these groups into a single organization, which posed a perceived threat to the Yugoslav state. He recounted that he learned of the deaths while imprisoned, following his return from Switzerland in October 1981. Luzha had traveled to Switzerland to gather information regarding the Istanbul meeting and subsequently informed the leadership committee of the negotiations before his arrest two months later.
