Berbés Port Authority launches marine waste recycling initiative
The Berbés Port Authority (APV) has launched a tender for a contract to manage the collection, transport, storage, and final processing of organic marine products and byproducts. This initiative aims to transform the current waste management process, which previously involved simple disposal, by seeking to give marine waste a second life, particularly for animal feed.
The service, valued at approximately 100,000 euros annually, will require the segregation of waste at the source based on its nature and intended final destination. These destinations include valorization, composting, recycling, or elimination.
Collection will take place throughout the Berbés fishing port during auction and handling days, typically Monday through Saturday. The operation will involve two workers operating between 8:00 and 17:00. Transport will be conducted using authorized vehicles equipped with closed, disinfectable containers to prevent cross-contamination across three distinct categories: treatment and elimination, controlled elimination, and recycling for specific animal feed uses.
